Gold runs in Svan's veins. As the son of Olympian Gunde Svan, Ferry’s competitive spirit was a natural companion from an early age. As a child, he took on every challenge – faster, stronger, better. But instead of following in his father’s footsteps in cross-country skiing, he decided to pursue a completely different career – in logger sports. A choice that paid off. In 2017, he made history when he was the first Swede and European to win gold at the Rookie World Championship in Hamburg. And this was just the beginning.
What is your job?
With my nomination for the Rookie World Championship, I decided to focus entirely on sport. Since then, I’ve been a STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® professional athlete.
What discipline is your personal strength and why?
If I had to choose, it would be the Hot Saw and Springboard. But at the top level, of course, you have to be strong in all disciplines. Maybe that’s why I like the Trophy format so much – it’s incredibly challenging, physically and mentally.
What motivated you to take part in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®?
Sport has always been a central part of my life. I have played various sports at a competitive level. At my school, we had the opportunity to try out logger sports once a week. After the first training session, which must have been in 2012, I immediately knew that this was a sport for me. I love working with wood and competing with others – so it's the perfect combination.
Is there a special moment in your STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® career that you will never forget?
Definitely my victory at the 2017 Rookie World Championship. I wanted to compete with the best in the world – and suddenly I was at the top of the podium. Nobody had expected it, not even me. My goal was to be in the top five. Another highlight was my first victory at the Nordic Pro Championship 2019 in Norway. These moments motivate me to keep going every day.
Do you have a goal for your STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® career?
Yes, I would like to become a STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Champion.
