Awatea Moore Barrett only made his debut on the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® stage in 2024. He sawed and chopped his way to the top nationally – and was deservedly crowned Australian junior champion. A success to be followed by many more.
What is your job?
I trained as a boilermaker. This is a demanding metalworking craft that requires precision, strength and endurance – skills that also benefit me in logger sports and take me further in the world of STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®.
What discipline is your personal strength and why?
Definitely the Standing Block Chop – the discipline I focused on from the start. It’s what I enjoy most and I seem to have a natural talent for it. The combination of technique and strength that you need for the swings suits me.
What motivated you to take part in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®?
I’ve chopped wood all my life and thought, why not try it on a professional level? So I made the switch to the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® stage to challenge myself and take my skills to the next level.
Is there a special moment in your STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® career that you will never forget?
Even though my career is just getting started, there are already some highlights. For me, the victory at the 2024 Rookie Championship in St. Kilda, Victoria remains unforgettable – a milestone that reflects my hard work and talent. Another special experience was the trip to the World Championship in France with the Chopperoos.
Do you have a goal for your STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® career?
I have ambitious plans: I want to win the Rookie World Championship and be part of the national team. This would allow me to consolidate my status as a top competitor and represent my country on the international stage – a dream I would like to make come true.
