The amphitheatre in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm was the venue for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Czech Championship. Martin Kalina became the new Pros Czech champion. In the women's competition, Karolina Urbanová confirmed her extraordinary form. The Czech success was rounded off by Miroslav Větrovec, who took second place in the International Czech Rookie Cup.
In front of a packed amphitheatre, the entire Czech elite of competitive logger sports took to the stage, joined by exchange athletes from other European countries. The men’s category attracted the most attention, with competitors vying for the title of Czech Champion and a place in the European rankings.
Martin Kalina showed the most balanced performance, collecting 74 points and winning the title for the second time in his career. Zdeněk Mařas took second place with 70 points, while bronze went to last year’s winner Matyáš Klíma (59 points). A disqualification in the Hot Saw cost favourite Klíma the victory.
"Competition has been exceptionally strong this year. Small details made the difference for every point. I am all the more pleased that I managed to master all disciplines without any major mistakes," said the new champion Martin Kalina.
Karolina Urbanová confirmed her world-class form
Only three weeks after winning the silver medal at the first women’s world championship in Budapest and setting a world record in the Standing Block Chop, Karolina Urbanová confirmed that she belongs to the absolute world elite.
In Frenštát , she dominated the International Czech Women’s Cup with 21 points. Her sister Jana took second place, with German Alrun Uebing taking third place. Věnceslava Urbanová, who came in fourth, also achieved an excellent result. The Urbanová family thus consolidated its outstanding position in European logger sports.
The “International Czech Rookie Cup” attracted young talent from several European countries to Frenštát. Miroslav Větrovec, who represented the Czech Republic at the Rookie World Cup in Budapest at the beginning of June, won an excellent second place. He only just beat Poland’s Mikołaj Groenwald, with the bronze going to Austrian Simon Oberzaucher.
"The results and the interest of the spectators confirm the rising level of STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® in the Czech Republic. Numerous participants achieved new personal best performances. Despite extreme heat, Matyáš Klíma set a new national record with a time of 15.64 seconds in the Underhand Chop, which the pioneer of the Czech lumberjacking sport, Martin Komárek, had held until then", said Jan Brabec, manager of the Czech series, of the championship.
