STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® reveals star studded line-up for season opening World Trophy

18 May 2022 – Three-time World Trophy Champion Brad De Losa and Individual World Champion Jason Lentz headline field of elite logger athletes set to takeover Vienna as World Trophy returns after two-year absence.

With the international season opener on the horizon, STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® has today revealed the stacked field set to contend the World Trophy on the weekend of 28th May. The much-loved format’s premier event will make its return to the international calendar following a two-year absence at the Rathausplatz in Vienna, Austria. 

The Rookie World Championship and International Women Cup will take place across the same weekend, with all events to be held at the same venue.  

This year’s hotly anticipated World Trophy sees the top woodchopping and sawing talent in the world land in Vienna headed by three-time World Trophy Champion Brad De Losa. Standing in the Australian’s way are USA’s reigning Individual World Champion Jason Lentz, Sweden’s Ferry Svan who sawed his way to victory in the World Trophy European Qualifier and Polish axe machine Michał Dubicki, who produced a scintillating display to claim the top step on the rostrum at the 2021 European Trophy.  

Also, in the 16 entrants battling to be the number one athlete in the extremely demanding Trophy format, is New Zealand’s Jack Jordan, who came through a hugely competitive national qualifier to book his ticket to Vienna as well as Canadian Marcel Dupuis and 2021 European Trophy runner-up from France, Pierre Puybaret.  

Austrian Wild Card Armin Kugler will be hoping the home crowd will spur him onto a special performance on a weekend which promises to produce high octane axe-tion.

The weekend also sees the best young talent in the world of TIMBERSPORTS® come together for the Rookie World Championship with a new and improved format. This year’s competition features the introduction of the Springboard discipline and also marks the first time the round format has been applied at the Rookie World Championship.

The high-quality field is headlined by Australian Jack Argent who will be challenged by the best talent in Canada, New Zealand, the USA and Europe including European Rookie Champion Matyáš Klima (Czech Republic) and number one ranked European Rookie Szymon Groenwald (Poland). France’s Loic Voinson, who recently smashed the Single Buck world record, and the experienced Oliver Reinhard from Switzerland also have high hopes of stepping onto the podium in the premier event for Rookie athletes.

International Women Cup goes intercontinental for the first time with Australian Amanda Beams taking on Europe’s top TIMBERSPORTS® talent
Friday afternoon will see the weekend’s events kick off in style as top female logger sports athletes compete in the International Women Cup. Reigning Australian Champion Amanda Beams joins an exciting group of Europe’s top female athletes including German sensation Alrun Uebing, who currently holds the Single Buck and Stock Saw world records.

Broadcast
All competitions will be livestreamed on the international TIMBERSPORTS® YouTube, Facebook and Twitch channels and the World Trophy will be livestreamed on the international sports broadcasting platform DAZN in Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland.
