EUROPE’S ELITE AXEMEN CONVERGE IN POZNAŃ TO BOOK 2024 WORLD TROPHY SPOT

6 July 2023 – Following a memorable weekend of breath-taking axe-tion a month ago at the World Trophy 2023, STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® is excited to announce a star-studded line-up for the European Trophy in Poznań, Poland on Sunday 30th July. The event will feature a field of Europe's finest logger sports athletes competing for not just the coveted continental title, but also for a position in next season's World Trophy.

The Pole Michał Dubicki is the big favorite for the European Trophy 2023. At the World Trophy 2023, here on the Single Buck, he was the first European ever to win the silver medal.

The action-packed, fan-favourite Trophy format will see the best athletes from around the continent go head-to-head, with only the top ten earning spots in the 2024 World Trophy.

The athletes will battle in knockout one-on-one duels across the four iconic TIMBERSPORTS® disciplines of Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck, and Standing Block Chop in an effort to qualify for the competition next year.

Poland striving for home victory as elite-class of competitors is confirmed
Fans can anticipate a starting field stacked with European TIMBERSPORTS® stars. Poland will be vying for home success with the favourite Michał Dubicki set to feature. The Pole, who was unbelievable throughout the 2023 World Trophy, made history by becoming the first European to ever reach a World Trophy final as he narrowly missed out on the crown by a split throw of an axe.

In Poznań, the 2022 European Trophy Champion, Emil Hansson who will be attempting to successfully defend his title, as well as Swedish compatriot Ferry Svan, will join him on the stage. Veterans Koen Martens (Belgium), Armin Kugler (Austria) and Danny Martin (Germany) will also be rivalling for a podium spot.

Poland’s exceptional young ace, Szymon Groenwald, will be determined to build on his 2023 Rookie World Championship triumph in his first international Trophy competition. After a stellar performance which saw the 18-year-old set two new world records on his way to capturing the Rookie World Championship, the Pole will want to prove he can thrive on an equal footing with the established stars and be a force to be reckoned with. The European Trophy 2023 will be broadcast from 1:00pm CEST live across the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Facebook, YouTube and Twitch channels, and also be shown live on international sports streaming platform DAZN in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
