Both professionally and privately, Nate Hodges' life revolves around wood. His STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® career really took off in 2019, culminating in the Individual World Championship title in France. Back then, he set three personal records in six disciplines. But the owner of a leisure centre for axe throwing on the west coast of the USA wants more and to win even more convincingly the next time he wins the title.
What is your job?
I am a general contractor, property manager and owner of Yosemite Axe Throwing, a leisure axe throwing facility that has several locations on the US west coast.
What discipline is your personal strength and why?
If I had to choose one, it would be the Springboard. But to be at the best in the world, you have to be good in all disciplines. In addition to mental strength, each individual also requires specific physical skills – which requires countless hours of training.
What motivated you to take part in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®?
I’ve always enjoyed working with chainsaws and axes, so I felt drawn to this sport. Seven years ago, I saw STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® on TV and thought, wow, I want to do that too and so I started pursuing this goal. I put the pedal to the metal, secured a place in the top 40 in 2019 and then climbed higher and higher.
Is there a special moment in your STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® career that you will never forget?
I put a lot of heart and soul into this sport, so there are countless experiences that I will always remember. But at this point, I would say that winning the World Championships was the highlight of my career.
Do you have a goal for your STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® career?
The work never stops if you want to be the best. I have already organised new axes and chains for my Hot Saw – all in preparation for the next season. In the off-season, I continue to eat healthy and exercise. My goal is to win the title again in the United States – and then of course to defend my World Championship title.
