The Chopperoos from Australia the team to beat in Team World Championship
The return of the Team World Championship will open the weekend of high octane TIMBERSPORTS® action on Friday 28th October at 7pm CEST. 20 national teams will compete against each other in a knockout system, with four athletes from each nation completing the disciplines Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop in a relay format.
Team Australia are aiming to make it a hat-trick of world titles having conquered at the 2018 and 2019 editions, with the 2020 and 2021 editions not held due to the pandemic. Their biggest competition is likely to come from their noisy neighbours and logger sport powerhouse New Zealand, whilst the USA team will have high expectations. A youthful Swedish outfit will be hoping to challenge in front of their home crowd, whilst the return of the Danish team also brings the first nomination of a woman for a national team at the Team World Championship in TIMBERSPORTS® history.
Gothenburg 2022 to crown a new Individual World Champion
The Individual World Championship will take place on Saturday 29th October at 7pm CEST and sees the world’s top twelve athletes compete against each other in a bid for global glory. A new winner will be crowned this year, after defending champion Jason Lentz was defeated in the USA qualifier by Matt Cogar. This year’s contest will also mark the return of logger sports legend and nine-time Individual World Champion Jason Wynyard from New Zealand. Last year’s silver medalist Marcel Dupuis from Canada will be aiming to go one better this year and Australia’s highly decorated veteran Brad De Losa is likely to provide a challenge for the title. They all will be joined in Gothenburg by a host of Europe’s top athletes including Austria’s Armin Kugler, German Danny Martin and France’s Pierre Puybaret, whilst Swedish star Emil Hansson will carry the hopes of the home nation on his shoulders. Hansson defeated Ferry Svan in a thrilling Swedish national championship to earn his spot in Gothenburg.
The athletes will compete in all six TIMBERSPORTS® disciplines in a three-round elimination format. In each discipline, the competitors are awarded points according to the time it takes to complete the discipline, with the lowest ranking athletes eliminated after each round. The athlete achieving the highest points across the three rounds will be declared the 2022 Individual World Champion.
Both competitions will be broadcast live across the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Facebook, YouTube and Twitch channels and will also be shown live on international sports streaming platform DAZN in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.
