STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® wood management
In order to guarantee best possible chopping and sawing conditions for the competitions STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® puts great effort in providing high-quality wood. In terms of natural resources, we assume responsibility in ensuring sustainably grown and harvested wood. We use purposely grown industrial wood for the competitions.
In 2020, STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® used around 320 metric tons of wood for the international competitions plus the national competitions and training camps all over Europe.
- 80 % was Poplar from certified plantations in The Netherlands and Belgium
- 14 % was Black Poplar from certified forestry and certified plantations in The Netherlands and Belgium
- 6 % was White Pine from certified forestry in Switzerland
100 % of our wood is recycled and used for energy (heating). One third was already recycled after the production and processing of the competition wood and two thirds were recycled after the competitions and training camps.
The original purpose of the grown wood is to be used as biomass. The bigger trees in the plantations are used to produce wooden crates for vegetables and fruit. The smaller trees that cannot be used for this purpose are selected to become competition wood for TIMBERSPORTS®.
