The world's best woodchopping and sawing athletes are coming to Sweden as STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® prepares to host the 2019 Champions Trophy at the iconic Tjolöholm Castle on Saturday, 25th May.
The 2019 Champions Trophy will be held at the stunning Tjolöholm Castle, near Gothenburg, Sweden. Fans will be treated to a high-octane display of speed, power and skill, set against a beautiful coastal backdrop of the Kungsbacka Fjord.
The competition will feature the 12 highest-ranking TIMBERSPORTS® athletes in this competition format from around the world, who will go head-to-head in a series of knockout match-ups. In each match-up, athletes will have to complete four disciplines back-to-back: Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop. The fastest athlete from each match-up will progress to the next round, culminating in a grand final between the last two remaining competitors. The 2018 Champions Trophy saw Canada's Stirling Hart defeat nine-time TIMBERSPORTS® World Champion, Jason Wynyard, in a pulsating final.
The holder will be back to defend his title this year but will face stiff competition from an elite field including the reigning World Champion Laurence O'Toole from Australia. Also qualified are Jesse Whitehead (NZL), Matt Cogar (USA), Martin Komarek (Czech Republic), Armin Kugler (Austria), Martin Kalina (Czech Republic), Robert Ebner (Germany), Andrea Rossi (Italy), Elgan Pugh (Great Britain) and Michal Dubicki (Poland).
Competing for Sweden will be the 22-year-old Ferry Svan from Vansbro. He won the 2017 Rookie World Championship and had a successful debut at the Champions Trophy last year. But he has his sights set even higher for this year's event on home soil: "Last year I finished in eighth place, but my goal is to go even further this year."
The event will be streamed live on the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® website, Facebook, YouTube and twitch channels. Tickets for the event are available at www.stihl-timbersports.com.
Taking place earlier in the day is the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Championship, featuring 10 of the best newcomers to the sport in a four-round competition. Each athlete will compete in the Standing Block Chop, Stock Saw, Single Buck and Underhand Chop, accumulating points in each round based on their placing in each discipline. The athlete with the most points at the end of the fourth round will be crowned the 2019 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Champion.
