The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Trophy 2020

The world's best woodchopping and sawing athletes are coming to Austria as STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® prepares to host the 2020 World Trophy in the stunning surrounds of Vienna's famed Rathausplatz on Thursday 21st May.

The 2020 World Trophy – formerly known as the Champions Trophy - will be held at the remarkable Rathausplatz, one of Vienna's most renowned tourist spots, lying in front of the town hall and the iconic Burgtheater.

The pinnacle event of the extremely challenging Trophy format is part of a two-day celebration of TIMBERSPORTS® in the Austrian capital and is hosted in cooperation with the city and its forestry office. Entry on both days is free, as fans are invited to watch a total of four thrilling competitions over the two days and to take part in various side attractions organized by the Vienna forestry office.

The World Trophy will feature the 12 highest-ranking TIMBERSPORTS® athletes in this competition format from around the world, who will go head-to-head in a series of knockout match-ups. In each match-up, athletes will have to complete four disciplines back-to-back: Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop. The fastest athlete from each match-up will progress to the next round, culminating in a grand final between the last two remaining competitors, where the winner will be crowned the TIMBERSPORTS® World Trophy Champion.

The 2019 Champions Trophy saw USA's Matt Cogar defeat the seemingly unstoppable LaurenceO'Toole – at the time the Individual STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Champion – in a thrilling final watched by thousands of fans in Gothenburg, Sweden, and millions of fans around the globe.

With seven of the 12 competitors already confirmed, the field looks as competitive as ever and fans can expect another pulsating race to crown the 2020 champion. The confirmed athletes are:Stirling Hart (Canada), Michal Dubicki (Poland), Armin Kugler (Austria), Calle Svadling (Sweden),Robert Ebner (Germany), Martin Komárek (Czech Republic) und Danny Mahr (Germany). Qualifiers from the USA, Australia and New Zealand are still to be determined in upcoming qualification tournaments, with two Wild Card winners also to be nominated.

The event will be streamed live on the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® website, Facebook, YouTubeand twitch channels.

Taking place the following day is the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Championship, featuring 12 of the best newcomers to the sport in a three-round competition across five disciplines: the Underhand Chop, Stock Saw, the Standing Block Chop, Single Buck and Springboard. Each athlete will accumulate points in each round based on their placing in each discipline, with the lowest ranked athletes dropping out after each round. The athlete with the most points at the end of the third round will be crowned the 2020 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Rookie World Champion.Also taking place over the two days are the Austrian Championship and the Austrian Rookie Championship.
