STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship heads to Prague

The very best woodchopping and sawing athletes in the world are heading to Prague, as the Czech capital was today officially named as the host city for the 2019 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship. The event will take place on 1st and 2nd November, at the iconic Industrial Palace, and promises to deliver a spectacular weekend of high-octane, edge-of-your-seat action.

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship sees the best athletes from across the globe compete in a series of woodchopping challenges utilizing axes and saws. The original extreme sport will head to the Czech Republic for the very first time, with the rest of the world aiming to end the dominance of Australia after they secured a World Championship double in 2018.

The Chopperoos produced an electrifying performance and set a world record on their way to winning the team event, pipping the USA to the title. Aussie Laurence O'Toole then put on woodchopping and sawing masterclass to take the individual event by storm, capping off an incredible weekend of extreme sporting action. Over 6,000 spectators attended the 2018 World Championship in Liverpool, as the event made a successful debut in the UK. STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® will be looking to make history once again in Prague with another stunning night of speed, power and skill.

Athletes from over 20 nations will be battling it out in Prague for the Individual and Team titles. In the team event on Friday 1st November, the national teams will compete against each other in a knockout system, where the disciplines of Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop are completed by four athletes in a relay.

The world's top twelve athletes will then compete against one another in all six disciplines as part of the individual competition on Saturday 2nd November. In each discipline the competitor is awarded points according to their achieved time, with the athlete achieving the highest number of points declared the Individual World Champion. This year's Czech participant will try to take the title home this year in front of a cheering home crowd.
