The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Champions Trophy comes to Sweden for the very first time. Twelve top athletes from all over the world will compete against each other in a thrilling knockout competition, including the defending champion Stirling Hart from Canada and young gun Ferry Svan from Sweden.
On 25 May the international elite will go head-to-head at the Tjoloholm Castle beside the spectacular Kungsbacka fjord. The Champions Trophy sees the world's best logger sports athletes chop through four wooden blocks in less than a minute using razor-sharp axes and saws. Set in a stunning location, it is the ultimate test of stamina - the competitors go head-to-head in four consecutive disciplines, with the fastest athlete in each heat knocking out his opponent.
Among the favorites competing at the Champions Trophy in Gothenburg will be the defending champion Stirling Hart from Canada. In last year's competition, he proved he is one of the toughest athletes in the sport, beating nine time World Champion Jason Wynyard from New Zealand in the final. Martin Komarek from the Czech Republic is another one to watch, after he put in an impressive performance to win the European Qualifier Tournament. He also came fourth in the 2018 Champions Trophy, finishing as the highest-placed European. Komarek will be joined in this year's competition by more top athletes from Australia, the USA, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Austria and Great Britain.
Competing for Sweden will be the 22-year-old Ferry Svan from Vansbro. He won the 2017 Rookie World Championship and had a successful debut at the Champions Trophy last year. But he has his sights set even higher for this year's event on home soil: "Last year I finished in eighth place, but my goal is to go even further this year."
The 2019 Rookie World Championship will also take place at the same impressive venue before the Champions Trophy, giving up-and-coming logger sports athletes their own chance to shine. The competitors, who are under 25 and from all over the world, will take each other on in a fiercely contested battle for the title of Rookie World Champion. Tickets will be available soon.
